The Passion and Reconciliation

Information on a recent conference at the Passionist Retreat House, Tobar Mhuire near Belfast addressing peace and reconciliation.

Locally, here in Birmingham Alabama, the county government want to close down the only public hospital for indigents. It is hard, emotionally, to get "my arms around this issue" because as a privileged clerical religious I will probably have guarantee health care. Nevertheless, I can act even though I can't relate experientially. the Passion has a way of doing that to us.

Well put John. My take on it is that the internal pulse is that which shapes or engenders the external pulse, it is therefore a critical imperative to gestate and nurture the pulse within, lest it generates undesired expressions which plunges the abandoned further down into utter misery. "We love because God loved us first" 1 Jn 4:19.

Passionist Solidarity petition for Fr. Mario Bartolini of Peru

Fr. Mario Bartolini, CP is a Passionist in Peru who works in defense of the peasants basic human and property rights with respect to their native land in the Amazon region of Peru, where he is serving as a parish priest.

Fr. Mario is in the midst of serious legal problems as a consequence of his efforts in defense of small landowners in Barranquita where he ministers. These peasents own only small parcels of land which are all that they possess and which they work in order to feed and clothe their families, including their aged parents.

The Passionist Synod in Rome, along with the General Superior and his Council, are asking for the International Passionist Family to support the ministry and human rights efforts of Fr. Bartolini by signing on to a petition of solidarity that urges the courts of Peru to recognize the position of social and legal justice for the peasents of Barranquita and to recognize their rights to possess their own traditional land over the economic desires of powerful multinational businesses interests.

Please sign the petition by clicking on the link above.

That was an epic moment Br. Ed. I think most people (including myself) were speechless and amazed at such an application of the Christian principle. I am also led to think about the book "The Shack." Thank you,

This gospel this week makes me reflect on the book Amish Grace and how the people of Nickel Mines Pennsylvania reacted to the killings at their school. They took the Lord's Prayer serious and offered forgiveness. Forgiveness is a real answer to social justice problems at times.

what's going on? Holy Family Cristo Rey HS is concluding year III with all grads going to college.
we are trying to figure how we are going to manage a deficit to raise in the next three years. It will take all of that time to get to a point where we are covering at least 60% of our operations with students' salaries.
Breaking the cycle of pverity coes not come free when it involves formal education. alex

If you live in the United States Please visit the US Catholic Bishops site to lobby for issues of nuclear disarmament and peace to the Holy Land and the Congo.
